Ranchi, Sep 20: A silk farmer from Dumka district has brought recognition to Jharkhand after receiving a national-level award in the private grainage category at an event marking the 77th foundation day of the Central Silk Board in Bengaluru.
Shambhu Nath Dehri, a resident of Madhuban in Dumka, was honoured during a ceremony held at the Gandhi Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Bengaluru. The award was presented by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh.
Dehri was recognised for his contribution as a private grainier, a category related to private production of silkworm seed. His recognition marks an achievement for Jharkhand’s silk sector and its farmers.
Officials from Jharkhand’s Handloom, Sericulture and Handicrafts Department, along with representatives and officials from other states, attended the programme.
The award has highlighted the contribution of farmers and private participants to the development of sericulture in Jharkhand, particularly in districts such as Dumka where silk-related activities provide livelihood opportunities.
