New Delhi, August 12: India’s lower house of parliament will open its Monday session with a crowded agenda, including the tabling of multiple parliamentary committee reports, ministerial statements and the consideration of three major bills.
Proceedings will begin at 11 a.m. with the question hour, followed by ministers laying papers on the table for departments ranging from culture and education to finance and the environment.
Lawmakers will present reports from standing committees on external affairs, finance, railways, water resources, rural development, social justice and education. Notable among these are an evaluation of India’s Indian Ocean strategy, a review of the competition watchdog’s role in the digital economy, and assessments of the implementation of the National Education Policy in higher education.
Finance minister of state Pankaj Chaudhary is expected to brief the House on committee recommendations covering credit flows to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cyber security and white-collar crimes, and insurance sector regulation. Minister of state for corporate affairs Harsh Malhotra will speak on budget-related recommendations for his ministry.
The legislative session will centre on three bills. The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025, both to be moved by sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya, aim to promote ethical sports practices, safeguard athlete welfare and amend the 2022 anti-doping law.
Ports minister Sarbananda Sonowal will move the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, seeking to consolidate port laws, foster integrated development, create state maritime boards and a national maritime council, and address environmental, security and dispute-resolution mechanisms.
