Vijayawada, June 8: The government of Andhra Pradesh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with U.S.-based chip giant NVIDIA to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in Amaravati, the state’s capital region, officials said on Friday.

The collaboration aims to position Andhra Pradesh as a national hub for AI innovation through investments in infrastructure, research, startup incubation, and large-scale skilling efforts.

Under the agreement, NVIDIA will provide AI skill training to 10,000 students across the state over the next two years. The chipmaker will also support engineering colleges by offering curriculum guidance and technical training resources.

“This partnership with NVIDIA marks a decisive step in our vision to position Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in artificial intelligence,” said Nara Lokesh, the state’s Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications and Human Resource Development. “By equipping 10,000 students with cutting-edge AI skills and supporting our startup ecosystem, we are laying the foundation for a future-ready economy driven by innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.”

NVIDIA will also help develop AI research centres aimed at addressing real-world technological challenges across sectors, and assist in establishing the advanced computing infrastructure necessary for the university’s academic and research goals.

The MoU includes the facilitation of up to 500 AI startups from the state into NVIDIA’s global Inception Program, which provides emerging companies with access to technology, go-to-market support, and expertise.

“We are proud to collaborate with the government of Andhra Pradesh in building a strong and inclusive AI ecosystem,” said Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, Asia South, NVIDIA. “This initiative reflects our commitment to democratising access to AI education, accelerating research, and enabling startups to innovate at scale.”

Additionally, the agreement includes knowledge-sharing on best practices for establishing next-generation AI Factories—technology hubs designed to catalyze industrial innovation, research, and talent development.

Officials said the proposed AI University will be central to the state’s broader plan to align education, technology, and entrepreneurship with global digital trends.
