Ranchi, July 13: The Jharkhand government has initiated steps to establish a permanent market for street vendors in Ranchi’s Pandra area, aiming to provide hundreds of small traders with a secure and organized space to conduct their businesses.

Urban Development Minister Sanjay Seth, accompanied by Ranchi Mayor Roshni Khalkho, conducted a site inspection on Sunday to assess the feasibility of developing a dedicated vending zone.

The inspection focused on vacant government land located opposite Pandra Police Station and near Pandra Bridge.During the visit, officials discussed plans to develop the unused land into a well-planned marketplace for roadside vendors.

The proposed project is expected to offer a permanent location for small traders, reducing the risk of repeated eviction drives and ensuring greater livelihood security.

According to officials, the proposed market will include essential infrastructure such as covered sheds, clean public toilets, and other basic amenities to provide a safe and convenient working environment for vendors and daily wage earners.

The initiative is also expected to improve traffic management and enhance urban planning by relocating roadside vendors to a designated commercial space while ensuring uninterrupted business opportunities.

Several public representatives participated in the inspection, including Ward 32 Councillor Sanjay Kumar, Ward 33 Councillor Pushpa Toppo, Ward 34 Councillor Ajit Kachhap, along with other local leaders and officials.

The proposed permanent market is expected to strengthen the livelihoods of street vendors while promoting a more organized and accessible marketplace in the Pandra area.
