Ahmedabad, Aug 26: Four workers from Jharkhand were allegedly robbed of ₹38,270 after an autorickshaw driver took them to an isolated location in Ahmedabad, police said.According to a complaint lodged with the Gaekwad Haveli police, the workers were travelling in an autorickshaw when the driver allegedly diverted the vehicle to a secluded stretch, where another person joined him.
The suspects allegedly threatened the workers and took money from them. One of the workers, identified as Kumar, was also allegedly forced to transfer ₹10,000 through PhonePe from his mobile-linked bank account.With the cash and digital transfer combined, the total amount allegedly taken from the four workers was ₹38,270, according to the complaint.
The suspects allegedly placed the workers back in the autorickshaw after taking the money and drove them towards Sabarmati railway station.The complaint further states that the driver handed the workers ₹400 to pay the fare before leaving the area.
Kumar subsequently approached the Gaekwad Haveli police and filed a complaint against the unidentified autorickshaw driver and his alleged accomplice.
Police are examining available information to identify the vehicle and trace the suspects. Investigators are also expected to examine the digital payment record and other evidence that could help establish the sequence of events.The allegations are being investigated, and further details are awaited.
