New Delhi, September 11: Traffic movement on several major roads in the national capital will be regulated on Saturday evening in view of the 18th BRICS Summit, with authorities advising commuters to plan their journeys and use public transport wherever possible.
According to the Delhi Traffic Police advisory, restrictions and diversions will remain in effect from 8:15 PM to 11 PM on several important stretches in and around central Delhi.
The affected areas include India Gate, Kartavya Path, Janpath, Mandi House, Tilak Marg, Bhagwan Das Road, Mathura Road and Pragati Maidan, besides connecting roads.
The traffic measures have been planned to facilitate the secure and smooth movement of visiting heads of state, official delegations and other summit-related vehicles.
Commuters travelling through the affected areas have been advised to check their routes in advance and keep additional time for their journeys.
The traffic police has also encouraged people to use the Metro to avoid possible congestion and delays.Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has announced that services on all Metro lines will begin at 6 AM on Sunday.
The early start is aimed at facilitating the movement of students appearing for examinations as well as other passengers.
The DMRC has urged passengers and students to plan their journeys according to the revised Sunday service schedule.Authorities have also clarified that emergency and essential-service vehicles will receive priority passage during the traffic restrictions.
The traffic arrangements are part of the wider security and mobility measures being implemented in Delhi as the city hosts the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13.
