New Delhi, Sept 25: Delhi Police have arrested two first-year law students of Delhi University in connection with an alleged incident involving the harassment of two women and an attempt to pull them into a car near Mukherjee Nagar, officials said.
The accused have been identified as Abhinav, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, and Abhimanyu, who is from Gurugram. Police are also searching for a third person, identified as Naman Anil Kumar, who is suspected of driving the vehicle involved in the incident.
According to the complaint, a woman and her friend were walking near Mukherjee Nagar after visiting Vijaynagar Haqiqat Park on Wednesday night when a group of men allegedly approached them in a white Tata Safari.The women alleged that the men made inappropriate remarks and abused them after they objected.
The men allegedly continued following them and later came closer when the women stopped to record the incident.The complainant alleged that the men then attempted to pull her and her friend into the vehicle.
The group reportedly left after the women’s friend took out her mobile phone to record the incident.The woman subsequently approached the police and filed a complaint. A case was registered at the Mukherjee Nagar police station.
Investigators traced the vehicle allegedly used in the incident and identified its driver. Police subsequently arrested the two students, while efforts are continuing to locate the third alleged accused.The complainant had also alleged that she initially visited multiple police stations before her complaint was formally registered.
The police investigation is examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the evidence available, including the recorded video and other possible evidence.
The case comes amid public concern over incidents involving the safety of women in Delhi. Police are continuing their investigation and further action will depend on the evidence collected.The allegations against the arrested individuals are subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and their arrest does not by itself establish guilt.
