New Delhi, Sept 17: Delhi Police have arrested six people after a city resident was allegedly lured through an online platform, assaulted and confined before being taken to different locations in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, officials said.The victim was rescued from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, following an investigation into his disappearance, police said.
According to investigators, a missing-person complaint was filed on August 22. During the probe, police allegedly found that the man had been contacted by a woman using the identity of Indu alias Riyu alias Lisa Sharma through an online platform.
The woman allegedly approached the victim on the pretext of purchasing household goods and later took him to a flat in Neb Sarai, where he was allegedly assaulted and confined by Jitender Yadav and his associates.
Police said the victim was subsequently moved between several locations in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.Investigators analysed mobile-phone location data and detected the victim’s movements in areas including Palwal, Agra and Mathura. The information helped police trace him to Mathura on August 23.
On August 30, police intercepted a vehicle in Mahipalpur and arrested Jitender Yadav along with a woman. Further investigation led to the arrest of other suspects from Delhi and Palwal, officials said.
The arrested suspects were identified as Jitender Yadav alias Jeetu (32) of Kalyanpuri, his 20-year-old wife Bhanu Pratap, Ajju Sarkar (22) from Uttarakhand, and Rahul alias Bijender (28) and Naveen alias Chintu (28), both residents of Palwal.
Police said another woman allegedly involved in the incident was also arrested.Investigators alleged that the accused had established contact with the victim online before taking him to a secluded location.
They allegedly assaulted and confined him with the assistance of their associates.Police further alleged that the suspects accessed the victim’s banking, UPI and card facilities and demanded Rs 70 lakh from his family.
Police said Yadav has five previous cases registered against him, while Sarkar has one previous case.
Further investigation is underway to establish the individual roles of the accused, examine the financial transactions and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged confinement.
