New Delhi, July 25: A 40-year-old cab driver was allegedly robbed and murdered by four youths, including a juvenile, in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar in an attempt to make “easy money,” police said. Three accused have been arrested while one remains absconding.

The victim, Vijay Kumar, a resident of West Vinod Nagar, was found with multiple stab wounds inside his Maruti WagonR near Road No. 57 in Krishna Nagar on July 23. He was rushed to Dr. Hedgewar Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation. Within 24 hours, teams from Krishna Nagar Police Station and Shahdara district’s Special Staff solved the case using CCTV footage, call detail records (CDRs), technical evidence and local intelligence.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ayan (20), Sahil (19) and a 17-year-old juvenile. The fourth accused, Aman, is absconding and efforts are underway to arrest him.

According to the investigation, the accused had allegedly consumed liquor before planning to rob a cab driver for cash. Police said Aman arranged a knife, following which the group booked a Rapido cab using Ayan’s mobile phone.

Near Chitra Vihar red light, the accused allegedly stabbed Vijay Kumar multiple times before fleeing with the vehicle. They later dumped the victim’s body on the way.

Police said the accused lost control of the stolen WagonR and rammed into another vehicle. Fearing they would be caught after being chased by occupants of the other vehicle, they abandoned the car near East Azad Nagar Metro Station and escaped.

During the investigation, police recovered the alleged murder weapon, blood-stained clothes, the victim’s WagonR, mobile phones and other incriminating evidence.
