Ranchi, July 15: A Ranchi court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for the murder of her mother-in-law, bringing an end to the trial in a case that stemmed from a domestic dispute.
The court of the Additional Judicial Commissioner pronounced the verdict on Tuesday, holding Phulo Devi guilty of the murder of her mother-in-law, Manmurti Devi.
Besides the life sentence, the court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict.
She has remained in judicial custody since her arrest following the incident.The crime took place on June 9, 2024, in Karang village under the Lapung police station limits in Ranchi district.
According to the prosecution, a heated argument between the two women escalated into violence during the afternoon.
Investigators alleged that the accused struck the victim on the head with a brick, causing serious injuries.
She then allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and strangled her, leading to her death.
The victim’s husband filed a complaint with the Lapung police station, following which a case was registered and an investigation was launched.
During the trial, the prosecution presented witness testimonies and other supporting evidence to establish the charges against the accused.
After examining the evidence, the court found the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted Phulo Devi of murder.
The judgment marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings in a case that drew attention due to its violent nature and the involvement of close family members.
