New Delhi, July 28 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Assistant Engineer and two others in connection with an alleged bribery racket involving government construction projects, officials said on Tuesday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Roop Singh Meena, Assistant Engineer with the Delhi PWD; Sanjay Kaura, a representative of M/s Kaura Construction Company, Rohini; and Vikram Kumar, an employee of the private firm.

The CBI registered a case on July 27 against the accused following allegations that the PWD official was misusing his position to extend undue official favours to a government contractor linked with M/s Kaura Construction Company.

According to the agency, the Assistant Engineer allegedly facilitated benefits related to various PWD construction works in exchange for illegal gratification from the contractor. The bribes were allegedly paid through multiple channels, including an employee of the construction firm, as part of a criminal conspiracy.

The CBI alleged that on July 27, Sanjay Kaura instructed his employee Vikram Kumar to deliver ₹21 lakh in cash to the Assistant Engineer at his residence in Pitampura, Delhi.

Acting on specific information, CBI officials conducted a raid at the residence of the PWD officer and allegedly recovered the entire ₹21 lakh cash amount. During further searches, the agency also recovered ₹15.50 lakh in cash and documents suspected to be incriminating from the Assistant Engineer’s residence.

Searches at the residence of the construction company representative led to the recovery of ₹46.75 lakh in cash along with documents, the agency said.

The arrests were made after the recovery of cash and collection of evidence, the CBI said. Further investigation is underway to establish the extent of the alleged corruption network and identify other possible individuals involved.
