Agartala, Jan 24, The Border Security Force (BSF) and other security agencies foiled an infiltration attempt in Agartala on Thursday, apprehending two Bangladeshi nationals, Gias Uddin (26) and Moin Uddin (25), for allegedly entering India illegally, authorities said.
“Acting on confidential information, a joint operation by Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), BSF, and intelligence agencies led to the detention of two Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala Railway Station,” an official release stated.
During preliminary questioning, the detainees revealed their intended destination was Kolkata. GRP officials at Agartala Police Station are conducting detailed interrogations, with suspicions that more individuals may be involved, according to the statement.
A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station, and the detainees will be presented before the court, officials added.
Earlier Incident in Meghalaya
On Wednesday, BSF troops thwarted another illegal border crossing at the Meghalaya border, arresting six Bangladeshi nationals in the East Jaintia Hills region. Acting on a specific intelligence tip-off, the BSF conducted a search operation along the Indo-Bangladesh border, leading to the arrests.
Upon apprehension, it was revealed that the six individuals had entered India several months ago, worked as domestic workers in Bangalore, and were attempting to return to Bangladesh.
Heightened Security Measures
The BSF has also launched a 10-day “OPS Alert” exercise along the India-Bangladesh border to ensure heightened security ahead of the 76th Republic Day celebrations. The move comes in light of the “changed scenario in Bangladesh,” according to officials.
The BSF and its partner agencies remain vigilant to prevent further illegal crossings and ensure border security, particularly during the national festivities.
