Patna, Sep 23: Several districts of Bihar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 23 and 24, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across the state.
East Champaran, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Siwan and West Champaran have been placed under an alert for very heavy rainfall on September 24, according to the weather forecast.
Heavy rainfall is also likely in Araria, Kishanganj, Saran and Supaul, while Madhepura, Purnia, Saharsa, Samastipur and Sitamarhi are expected to receive heavy rain on September 23.
The IMD has also warned of strong winds with speeds of around 40-50 kmph, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The weather system is linked to a deep depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move towards the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
Monsoon activity in Bihar remained weak during the past 24 hours, although light to moderate rainfall was recorded at many places in eastern parts of the state.
Bhabua in Kaimur recorded the state’s highest temperature at 38.1 degrees Celsius, while Valmiki Nagar in West Champaran recorded the lowest at 24 degrees Celsius. Winds reaching 57 kmph were reported in Bhojpur.
Maximum temperatures are likely to remain stable for the next two days before falling by 2-4 degrees Celsius.
Authorities have advised people to avoid open areas, tall trees and power poles during thunderstorms and take shelter in permanent structures.
