CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR, India, March 19 – Authorities in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district have declared the site of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb’s tomb in Khultabad a “no-drone zone” as tensions escalate over calls for its removal, an official said on Wednesday.
Demonstrations have been held across the state, with several politicians supporting demands to remove the tomb. Protests turned violent in Nagpur on Monday, prompting heightened security measures.
A company of the State Reserve Police Force and 50 additional personnel have been deployed in Khultabad to maintain order, an official said. District Collector Dilip Swami, who visited the Archaeological Survey of India-protected site on Tuesday, urged the public to avoid spreading or believing in rumors and to report any concerns to the administration or police.
Authorities are also closely monitoring social media for provocative content. A team of ten police personnel in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is working round the clock to track and remove incendiary posts, Cyber Police Inspector Shivcharan Pandhare said.
“The hashtags #Alamgir and #Aurangzeb are trending, and we are using them to identify and take down objectionable content,” Pandhare told PTI. So far, 506 posts have been removed, and over 80 individuals have been warned against posting inflammatory content. Authorities warned that further legal action would be taken against those violating regulations.
