Araria DIC official held by vigilance bureau over alleged ₹50,000 bribe

Araria, Aug 8: The Bihar Vigilance Bureau on Saturday arrested District Industries Centre General Manager Anil Kumar Mandal after allegedly recovering ₹50,000 from him during a raid at his residence in Araria, officials said.

The action followed a complaint by machine dealer Mohd Quamare Alam, who alleged that Mandal had sought ₹85,000 as illegal gratification for facilitating a government order for the supply of machines.According to vigilance officials, the complaint was examined and subsequently found to have prima facie substance.

A case was registered against Mandal on August 7 under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.A vigilance team headed by DSP Satish Chandra Madhav, accompanied by Inspector Ranjan Kumar and other personnel, conducted the operation at Mandal’s residence on Saturday afternoon.

During the search, officials allegedly recovered ₹50,000 from Mandal’s possession. The bureau said the money was linked to the alleged bribe demand.Following his arrest, Mandal was taken to Patna for questioning and further legal proceedings, officials said.

The vigilance authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged demand, the recovered cash and the machine supply order as part of the investigation.The allegations against the official are subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
