Ranchi, Aug. 30: A large gathering of Adivasi community members and organisations was held at Morahabadi Maidan in Ranchi on Sunday, with participants raising concerns over the proposed delimitation exercise and demanding that the process be deferred until 2028.
The event, organised under the banner of the Adivasi Unity Mahajutan, drew participants from different parts of Jharkhand, according to the organisers.
While they claimed a much larger turnout, a significant crowd was seen at the venue.Police and civil administration personnel were deployed in and around Morahabadi Maidan to manage the gathering and maintain law and order.
The rally focused on concerns about the potential impact of delimitation on the political representation of Adivasi and tribal communities. Participants argued that any future redrawing of parliamentary and assembly constituencies should take into account the interests and representation of tribal populations.
The organisers demanded that the delimitation process be frozen or postponed until 2028, saying additional time was needed to address concerns raised by tribal communities.
The protest has also received political support from Jharkhand’s ruling Mahagathbandhan alliance, which includes the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Delimitation involves revising the boundaries of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions.
The issue has generated political debate in Jharkhand, where tribal identity and representation remain significant public and political concerns.
The rally reflected growing efforts by Adivasi organisations and political groups to bring the issue of tribal representation into the centre of the public debate ahead of any future delimitation-related decisions.
