Nellore, Sept 2: Seventeen workers from Jharkhand were injured after the vehicle carrying them overturned near Buja Buja Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, officials said.The accident occurred on Tuesday evening while a group of 21 workers was travelling to Daggavolu near Balayapalle in Tirupati district for work related to the shifting of power lines.
The injured workers were taken to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nellore for treatment.Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla visited the hospital after receiving information about the accident and reviewed the medical care being provided to the workers.
He also checked their medical records and sought details about their condition.The Collector directed the contractor to provide immediate financial assistance of ₹10,000 each to 16 workers undergoing treatment in orthopaedic and surgical wards.
An assistance amount of ₹1 lakh was ordered for a worker receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit, officials said.The district administration also directed officials to inform the families of the injured workers in Jharkhand and arrange immediate financial assistance. The contractor was asked to ensure the welfare of the injured workers until their recovery and make full payment of their wages.
Meanwhile, the Collector ordered a detailed inquiry into the circumstances that led to the accident. DSP Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao, RDO Anusha and Labour Department official Vijay Kumar Reddy were directed to investigate the incident and take appropriate action based on their findings.
The Superintendent of the Government General Hospital was instructed to ensure that the injured workers received all necessary medical support for their speedy recovery.The cause of the accident is yet to be established, and further details are expected after the completion of the official inquiry.
