Ranchi, April 25: The Jharkhand government has withheld the April salaries of District Education Officers (DEOs) from 15 districts, citing their failure to disburse teachers’ salaries on time despite the timely release of funds.
According to a directive issued by the Directorate of Secondary Education, the funds for teachers’ payments were allocated to district accounts on April 7. However, by 5:00 p.m. on April 23, the funds had not been withdrawn from the treasury, prompting administrative action.
Secondary Education Director Rajesh Prasad issued show cause notices to all 15 DEOs, demanding a written explanation within three days. The officers have also been asked to clarify why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them for the delay.
“Even after the Directorate provided funds for the payment of teachers’ salaries, the DEOs failed to withdraw them from the treasury by the deadline,” the Directorate said in a statement.
The affected districts include Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Lohardaga, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Saraikela, Palamu, Chatra, Ramgarh, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, and Sahibganj.
The action underscores the state government’s push for accountability in the education department and its intent to address delays that affect thousands of school teachers across Jharkhand.
