Jamshedpur, Dec 2: In the wake of dense winter fog reducing visibility on many routes in eastern India, the railways have canceled several trains passing through Tatanagar until February 28, 2026.
As per the Railways, the call has been taken to prioritise passenger safety, as thick fog during early mornings and late evenings affects train operations and increases the risk of accidents during this period of the year.
The trains affected include the Tatanagar–Amritsar Express, Amritsar–Tatanagar Express, Santragachi–Anand Vihar Express, Anand Vihar–Santragachi Express, Tatanagar–Hatia Express, Hatia–Tatanagar Express, and one train running via Ranchi. The cancellations will mostly affect passengers traveling to and from Jharkhand, Bihar, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.
The cancellations will directly impact passengers of the Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway. The decision will now force thousands of travellers to change their travel plans.
Railway officials said that in low visibility, trains cannot operate at full speed, which often causes long delays. Running trains in such conditions also increases the chances of accidents, making the precautionary cancellations necessary.
Meanwhile, the railways have urged passengers to check the latest train updates before planning or starting their journeys. It further said that normal train operations will resume once the fog subsides and weather conditions improve.
