Jamshedpur, September 26: BJP state president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi believes that the outcome of upcoming Ghatsila by-election would be “unpredictable,” even as the saffron party is yet to declare its candidate.

Marandi, who was in Jamshedpur to attend a symposium marking the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay on Thursday, further added that the poll issues would revolve around changing demographics in tribal-dominated areas and the growing threat to the existence of tribals, accusing the state government of remaining indifferent.

Commenting on the party’s face in the Ghatsila bypoll, Marandi said the BJP would soon unveil its candidate.

Speaking to the media, the BJP chief also launched a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren-led government. He alleged that corruption has grown unchecked, while criminals operate with impunity.

Referring to the recent Pithoria incident, Marandi accused the Hemant government of “encouraging animal slaughter.” On the Pakur blast case, he said the use of bombs in clashes shows “criminal morale is soaring” and warned that such law-and-order failures will harm Jharkhand’s development.

Meanwhile, the party leaders recalled Deendayal Upadhyay’s vision of nation-building and upliftment of the poorest sections of society at the event. Marandi said true service lies in bringing those at the bottom of the pyramid into the mainstream and raising them above poverty.

The event was attended by Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu, Meera Munda, wife of former Union Minister Arjun Munda, and MP Vidyutvaran Mahato.
