Ranchi/Chaibasa, September 25: In a major achievement for Jharkhand Police, ten CPI (Maoist) cadres, including four women, surrendered before security forces in Chaibasa on Thursday.

The surrender took place under the state government’s extremist surrender and rehabilitation policy, in the presence of DGP Anurag Gupta, senior CRPF officials, and Jharkhand Jaguar officers.

According to police headquarters, the group comprised nine squad members and one area committee member. All of them were wanted in several serious cases registered under the Arms Act, UAPA, Explosives Substances Act, and for murder across police stations in Tonto, Chotanagrah, Jaraikela, and Guwa.

Those who laid down arms include area committee member Rando Boypai alias Kranti of Goilkera, along with cadres Gardi Koda, John alias Johan Purti, Kaira Koda, Ghonor Devgam, Gomia Koda alias Tarzan, and Pradeep Singh Munda. The women cadres were identified as Nirso Siddu alias Asha, Kari Kayam alias Gulanchi, who arrived carrying her infant daughter, and Savitri Gop alias Football.

DGP Gupta honored the surrendered cadres, terming the move a major setback for Maoists in the Kolhan and Saranda regions. He said that continuous joint operations by Jharkhand Police, CRPF, Cobra, and Jaguar units over the last three years have forced Maoists to give up arms.

As per Police, security forces carried out 9,631 operations in West Singhbhum, leading to the arrest of 175 extremists, killing of 10 in encounters, and recovery of a large cache of weapons and explosives over this three-year period. So far, 26 Maoists have surrendered under the rehabilitation policy.

The DGP said that the government’s rehabilitation policy and the setting up of new security camps in remote areas have helped curb Maoist influence, instilled confidence among villagers, and encouraged extremists to return to the mainstream.
