Ranchi, August 21: In a move aimed to ensure that the coming generations are well acquainted with the legacy of the state’s courageous and resilient hero Shibu Soren, the Department of School Education and Literacy has announced that the biography of Dishom Guru will be taught in all public schools from 2026 onwards.

As part of this decision, chapters on the life of Dishom Guru will be included in eight textbooks across classes one to twelve. For students in classes one to five, his story will be introduced through simple language and narratives. On the other hand for higher classes, the focus will shift to his socio-political struggles, tribal identity, and parliamentary contributions in greater detail.

The education department believes children should learn about national leaders and local figures to better understand history and society. Moreover, students will also be tasked with project-based work and activities, alongside traditional textbooks to get a deeper understanding.

Reports suggest that the process of preparing materials has already commenced. A dedicated team of experts will select appropriate language and presentation styles tailored to various age groups, ensuring that the topic is both engaging and accessible for children.

Following the development, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has welcomed the step, describing it as a significant milestone. Senior party leader and party’s General Secretary Mithilesh Kumar Thakur took to X and said: “Guruji’s struggle, initiatives for social reform, and his legacy will now guide future generations as part of their education. This decision honors not only the curriculum but also the identity and pride of Jharkhand. Dishom Guru lives forever!!”

Notably, JMM co-founder Shibu Soren, affectionately known as Dishom Guru, died on August 4 at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for kidney-related complications.

Shibu Soren played a crucial role in the movement for a separate Jharkhand state and served multiple terms as Chief Minister and Union Minister. His political journey, marked by grassroots activism and steadfast advocacy for tribal rights, earned him widespread respect across the country.
