New Delhi, August 20: India’s Election Commission (ECI) on Monday published the names of 6.5 million people removed from Bihar’s draft electoral rolls during a special revision exercise, following a Supreme Court order to make the deletions public.

The names were struck off as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, with officials citing the standard categories of “ASD” – absentee, shifted or dead voters.

The move comes after the Supreme Court directed the poll panel to disclose details of all deletions by Aug. 19 and file a compliance report by Aug. 22.

According to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, the ASD lists have already been displayed at polling booths in districts including Rohtas, Begusarai and Arwal. The commission is also expected to make the information available online, in line with the court’s directive.
