Mumbai, April 24 — American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger marked two decades of his brand’s presence in India with a high-profile visit to Mumbai last week, culminating in the launch of a limited-edition sailing collection and a day of events celebrating cultural exchange and style.
The celebrations began at the Tommy Hilfiger store in Jio World Drive, where Hilfiger participated in a panel discussion on global fashion trends and the confluence of Indian and American design. Moderated by actor and host Sarah-Jane Dias, the panel also featured Bollywood actor and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar.
The events continued with an exclusive dinner hosted by Hilfiger at Mumbai’s historic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, overlooking the Gateway of India. The guest list included prominent figures from India’s fashion and entertainment industry, such as filmmaker Karan Johar, actors Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur, and cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.
The brand also launched a limited-edition sailing collection, celebrating its nautical-inspired heritage with a sailing event at the Mumbai Yacht Club.
Tommy Hilfiger, which entered India in partnership with Arvind Ltd., has grown to become one of the country’s most recognizable international fashion labels. Kulin Lalbhai, vice chairman of Arvind Ltd., hailed the milestone as a reflection of the brand’s enduring relevance and strong cultural resonance.
“Mr. Hilfiger has been the heart and soul of the brand. His passion for product and his ability to stay culturally connected has ensured Tommy remains cool and relevant,” Lalbhai wrote in a LinkedIn post. “This is so much more than a partnership — it’s a deep friendship of four decades.”
Hilfiger’s visit comes as India continues to emerge as a key growth market for global fashion houses, buoyed by rising disposable incomes and a digitally engaged consumer base.
