FJCCI Urges Jharkhand Govt to Restore Law and Order After Business Losses
RANCHI, India, March 28 – The Federation of Jharkhand Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) has called on the state government to take urgent measures to restore law and order after a bandh disrupted businesses and caused estimated losses of Rs 100 crore ($12 million) on Thursday.
The shutdown, which affected multiple parts of Ranchi, comes ahead of the festive season, raising concerns among business leaders over repeated disruptions to trade. FJCCI officials warned that frequent bandhs are dealing a heavy blow to the state’s economy.
“Jharkhand’s law and order is deteriorating, leading to rising crimes and shutdowns called by political parties. The government must act swiftly to ensure businesses operate in a peaceful environment,” FJCCI President Paresh Gattani told Reuters.
Gattani said that within a week, two bandhs had resulted in losses of Rs 200 crore ($24 million), hitting local traders and vendors hard. During Thursday’s shutdown, many trucks carrying goods into Ranchi were stranded, but he assured that the supply chain would return to normal by Friday.
Cloth merchants and street vendors preparing for Eid and Sarhul, two major upcoming festivals, were among the worst affected by the bandh, he added. The FJCCI urged authorities to take concrete steps to curb illegal arms trade and improve law enforcement to prevent further disruptions.
