Ranchi, Mar 11 : Jharkhand’s Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta confirmed on Monday that three notorious gangsters—Aman Sahu, Aman Srivastava, and Vikas Tiwari—are continuing to direct criminal activities from within the state’s jails. Gupta’s statement comes after rising concerns over a series of recent shootings in Ranchi and Hazaribag.

Speaking to the media outside the state assembly, Gupta said, “The maximum number of organized crimes are being conducted by three gangsters namely Aman Sahu, Aman Srivastava, and Vikas Tiwari who are in jail. We are taking steps to prevent them from carrying out such activities.”

The DGP added that law enforcement had ramped up efforts to curb the operations of these gangsters. He revealed that raids were conducted in the Simdega and Hazaribag jails on Sunday and Monday, respectively, with notorious criminals being moved from one prison to another to prevent further criminal coordination.

Gupta highlighted the involvement of the state’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in the investigation of gang activities. On Sunday, the ATS registered a case against 30 members of the Aman Sahu gang under section 111 of BNS. Gupta elaborated that the gang used virtual numbers and foreign numbers to communicate, referring specifically to the firing incident involving Ranchi-based coal trader Bipin Mishra.

“We have some technical limitations. But we have cracked this and have identified all those involved. Hopefully, they will be arrested soon,” Gupta stated, expressing confidence that the authorities were closing in on the criminals.

Regarding the murder of an NTPC official, Gupta noted, “There is no clarity yet regarding criminals involved behind the murder of the NTPC official. The matter is being probed.”

The DGP’s admission comes as the state police faces intense scrutiny following the back-to-back shooting incidents. The ATS has been tasked with investigating both events. While the ATS is assisting Ranchi police with the Mishra case, it is also probing the activities of Aman Sahu’s gang in connection with the murder of Gaurav, though the gang has denied any involvement.

In light of the escalating violence, Gupta held a high-level meeting with senior state and Ranchi district police officers later in the day at the district collectorate to discuss measures to improve law and order across the region.
