New Delhi,Dec 31: Indian companies are set to expand their workforce by at least 10% in 2025, driven by advancements in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and renewable energy, according to a new report by CIEL HR.

The report highlights a surge in confidence across the job market, fueled by rapid technological evolution and shifting business priorities in sectors like semiconductors, startups, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and global capability centers (GCCs). Hiring growth is projected to outpace 2024 levels, signaling robust economic activity.

“The Indian job market is poised for transformation in 2025. Emerging technologies like edge computing, quantum applications, and AI will drive growth,” said Aditya Mishra, CEO of CIEL HR.

The IT sector is expected to lead the hiring spree with a 15% growth forecast, propelled by GCC expansion, multi-cloud adoption, and sustainability initiatives such as energy-efficient data centers. The retail sector is projected to see a 12% increase in hiring, thanks to rising consumer spending in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and a resurgence of experiential brick-and-mortar stores.

Meanwhile, the telecom sector is anticipated to grow its workforce by 11%, spurred by advancements in 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things (IoT). High-demand roles are expected in areas like edge computing, software-defined networking (SDN), and cybersecurity.

Several major companies are gearing up to capitalize on this growth. Colgate-Palmolive plans significant workforce expansion, citing India’s strategic importance as a growth market. Similarly, Tech Mahindra is set to hire 5,000 engineering graduates in 2025, focusing on skills in AI, machine learning (ML), and data analytics.

Meesho, a leading e-commerce platform, aims to continue its aggressive hiring efforts with a focus on diversity and inclusion. The company is prioritizing the recruitment of women and young professionals from top institutions.

“We are planning to hire aggressively in 2025, with strong demand across business verticals,” said Reena Wahi, Partner and Head of People, Performance, and Culture at KPMG India. The firm is emphasizing skills in data science, AI, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks, and IoT while fostering inclusivity by hiring from underrepresented communities.

Tata Steel has also outlined plans to build a future-ready workforce through a dual focus on internal talent development and external hiring. A company spokesperson highlighted “adaptability and innovation as key traits” for the future workforce.

The report underscores a growing commitment to upskilling as businesses adapt to a rapidly changing economy. Companies are emphasizing sustainability and diversity as part of their long-term strategies, reflecting a broader effort to stay competitive in a global market.

KPMG, for instance, is hiring talent from diverse backgrounds, including people with disabilities and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This approach aligns with the broader trend of fostering a workforce equipped to navigate emerging challenges.

The evolving landscape of India’s job market in 2025 points to a collective effort to embrace emerging technologies, drive operational agility, and create opportunities for the next generation of professionals. Rising consumer spending and technological advancements like AI, 5G, and IoT are expected to continue reshaping industries and driving economic growth.

With a strong focus on sustainability, diversity, and innovation, Indian companies are positioning themselves for long-term success in an increasingly competitive global market.
