Ranchi, Sept 30: Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd (CMPDI) and CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR) have entered into a five-year partnership to promote the development and implementation of coal gasification projects in India.The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the CSIR-CIMFR office in Dhanbad on Monday.
CMPDI’s Head of Business Development Vikrant Gupta and CSIR-CIMFR Scientist-G Amar Nath signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.The partnership is aimed at combining CMPDI’s project development capabilities with CSIR-CIMFR’s scientific and technological expertise in coal and fuel research.
Under the agreement, CSIR-CIMFR will work as the knowledge partner and provide technical inputs for areas including coal feedstock assessment, selection of suitable gasification technologies, process development and pilot-scale performance evaluation.
It will also undertake techno-economic assessments to help determine the technical and commercial feasibility of proposed projects.CMPDI, meanwhile, will act as the project development and implementation partner.
Its responsibilities will include project planning, coordination with stakeholders and facilitating the deployment of coal gasification technology at an industrial scale.The collaboration will also cover engineering and design support, assessment of project sites and infrastructure, environmental and regulatory requirements, technology commercialisation and identification of potential technology and industry partners.
Senior officials present during the signing included CMPDI Chairman-cum-Managing Director Chaudhari Shivraj Singh, Director General of Mines Safety R.T. Mandekar, CSIR-CIMFR Director Prof Arvind Kumar Mishra and other senior officials from the two organisations.
The agreement is expected to provide a structured mechanism for the two institutions to combine their expertise and support the development of coal gasification projects in the country over the next five years.
