Ranchi, Sept 30: The Hatia Mazdoor Union, affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has called a general meeting of workers on October 12 to discuss pending issues related to wages, promotions, allowances and other service benefits.Union president Bhawan Singh said the meeting will be held at 1 pm at the FFP Shed, where workers will discuss the issues and decide on the future course of action.The union has alleged that promotions for permanent employees have remained pending since 2023.
It has also sought removal of restrictions affecting Provident Fund payments and payment of pending variable dearness allowance to supply workers.Other demands include resolution of grading-related issues and payment of benefits linked to earned leave, casual leave and bonuses, the union said.
The union also expressed concern over the functioning of worker-management committees. It claimed that seven months after the union received recognition, Production and Grievance Committees have not been constituted. It further alleged that a committee formed for the A Division has not held any meeting.
The union said it would raise concerns over what it described as a lack of progress on central wage and promotion-related matters and would consider further action if the issues remain unresolved.Salary payments were another major issue raised by the union. It alleged that workers have not received wages for two months despite an assurance of regular monthly payments.
The union has demanded that the pending salaries be cleared before Dussehra.The union also alleged that certain agreements concerning workers’ wages and benefits, including an agreement relating to supply workers reached in 2010, were not being implemented properly. These allegations could not be independently verified from the statement.
The union has called upon the management to hold discussions with the recognised union and provide information on the financial and administrative situation. It has sought a meeting between the four directors and the union before October 10.
Singh said the union would consider pursuing the matter through organisational and legal channels if its demands were not addressed.The union has appealed to workers to participate in large numbers in the October 12 meeting, where the next course of action is expected to be discussed.
