Ranchi, Sep 21: The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) has urged Ranchi police to consider allowing three-wheeler goods vehicles carrying essential commodities to operate during specified no-entry hours in the city.
A delegation of the business body met Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police on Monday and highlighted difficulties faced by small goods carriers because of the existing no-entry restrictions.
FJCCI President Tulsi Patel said the restrictions, which operate for two hours each in the morning and evening, can affect the movement of essential commodities. With the festive season approaching, she stressed the need to maintain an uninterrupted supply chain in the city.
The Chamber suggested that three-wheeler vehicles involved in the transportation of essential goods could be permitted to operate during the evening no-entry period under specified conditions and on designated routes.During the meeting, the SSP sought details of roads where goods vehicles witness significant movement or where traffic congestion is particularly high between 5 pm and 7 pm.
The Chamber was asked to provide a list of such routes and areas.The SSP assured the delegation that the traffic situation would be reviewed after receiving the route details and that the request for allowing essential-goods carriers during the restricted period would be considered accordingly.
The delegation also raised issues faced by transport operators in the Jalan Road area.Later, representatives of the Jharkhand Chamber and the Ranchi Goods Transport Association jointly visited Transport Nagar to assess the existing facilities and examine possibilities for providing organised space to transport businesses.
Patel said the Chamber would soon seek a meeting with the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand to discuss the procedure for allocating space to transporters at Transport Nagar and other related issues.She said the objective was to find a practical and long-term solution to the problems faced by the city’s transport sector.
The delegation included FJCCI office-bearers and members of the Ranchi Goods Transport Association and Jharkhand Progressive Mazdoor Union.
