Garhwa, Sep 21: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Monday called upon graduates of Babu Dinesh Singh University to use their education and professional skills for the welfare of society while continuously upgrading their knowledge to keep pace with technological advancements.
Addressing the university’s first convocation ceremony in Garhwa, Gangwar described the occasion as an important milestone in the institution’s development and said it offered an opportunity to review its achievements and set goals for the future.
The Governor said receiving a degree should not mark the end of a student’s learning journey. He encouraged graduates to translate their academic knowledge into practical work and demonstrate the values of education through their professional conduct and contribution to society.
Referring to rapid developments in artificial intelligence, digital technology, biotechnology and space science, Gangwar said emerging technologies were changing the nature of work and everyday life.
He urged young graduates to remain curious, develop new skills, explore innovative ideas and prepare themselves to respond to changing circumstances. He also stressed that knowledge and talent should be directed towards addressing social needs.
Gangwar said the standing of a university should be measured not only by its physical infrastructure but also by the standard of education it provides, the achievements of its students, research and innovation, and its contribution to the wider community.Highlighting Garhwa’s cultural and spiritual heritage, the Governor referred to the region’s traditions, natural wealth, folk culture and religious importance.
He also paid his respects to the Shri Banshidhar Temple at Shri Banshidhar Nagar, formerly known as Nagar Untari, and conveyed his wishes for the welfare and prosperity of the people of Jharkhand.He said Babu Dinesh Singh University, located in a region with a distinctive cultural heritage, could contribute significantly to the development of the younger generation.
He called for academic programmes suited to local requirements, along with greater focus on research, innovation, skill development, entrepreneurship and social responsibility.Speaking about private universities, Gangwar underlined the need to maintain academic standards and institutional credibility.
He said such institutions should strictly follow the rules, standards and guidelines laid down by the University Grants Commission and the state government.
The Governor expressed hope that Babu Dinesh Singh University would build a strong identity through academic excellence, transparency and quality education and provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
