New Delhi, Sept 18: India’s net direct tax collections rose 13 per cent year-on-year to Rs 12.1 lakh crore between April 1 and September 17 of the current financial year, according to data released by the Income Tax Department on Friday.
The collections, which include corporate income tax and personal income tax, stood at around Rs 10.7 lakh crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
On a gross basis, direct tax collections increased by more than 15 per cent year-on-year to Rs 14.3 lakh crore during the period under review, the department said.
Net collections reflect the impact of refunds issued by the tax authorities, while gross collections are calculated before accounting for such refunds.
The rise in direct tax receipts comes amid continued monitoring of tax compliance and collection trends during the first half of the financial year.
The figures cover the period from April 1 to September 17, 2026, and include collections from both corporate and individual taxpayers.
