New Delhi, September 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi and discussed ways to further strengthen India-Vietnam relations.
Modi welcomed Vietnam’s participation in the summit as a BRICS partner country and highlighted the importance of its engagement with the grouping.The two leaders reviewed developments in bilateral ties, which were elevated to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic
Partnership during Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary and President To Lam’s visit to India in May 2026.During their meeting, Modi and Hung also exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
They reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation and giving further momentum to the bilateral partnership.India and Vietnam share longstanding friendly relations based on historical and civilisational connections, mutual trust and understanding.
Over the years, the two countries have expanded cooperation across several areas of strategic and common interest.Vietnam holds an important position in India’s Act East Policy and is regarded as a key partner in India’s broader engagement with Southeast Asia.
The meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen their strategic partnership and enhance cooperation on regional and global issues.
