Jamshedpur, September 8: Jharkhand Governor-cum-Chancellor of state universities Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Tuesday urged graduating students of Jamshedpur Women’s University to use their education as a tool for personal growth as well as social and national development.
Addressing the fourth convocation of Jamshedpur Women’s University at the XLRI Auditorium here, Gangwar congratulated the graduating students and said the true purpose of education lies in applying knowledge in one’s conduct, work and decision-making.
“The true purpose of education is realised when the knowledge acquired at the university is translated into one’s conduct, work and decisions,” he said.
The Governor told the students that their degrees were certificates of their qualifications, but their talent, character and conduct would ultimately shape their distinct identity. He urged them to have a clear vision of their dreams, keep learning throughout their lives and remain confident in every situation.
“A degree is a certificate of their qualification, while their talent, character and conduct would shape their distinct identity,” Gangwar said.
He stressed that education should not be viewed merely as a means of securing employment, but should also help develop wisdom, values and a sense of responsibility.
“Education is not merely a means of securing employment but also a means of developing wisdom, values and a sense of responsibility,” he said.
Gangwar highlighted the National Education Policy 2020, saying it seeks to connect education with skills, research, innovation, creativity and holistic development. He also underlined the role of educated and self-reliant women in achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’.
“Educated and self-reliant daughters would play an important role in realising the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’,” the Governor said.
He said Jamshedpur Women’s University had established a distinct identity in the field of women’s education and called upon it to build an academic environment that encourages curiosity, research, innovation and leadership among students.
Gangwar expressed confidence that the university would achieve new milestones in education and research in the coming years.
The Governor said Jharkhand’s young women possess immense talent and can make their mark at national and international levels if provided with appropriate opportunities and guidance.
“There is no dearth of talent among the daughters of Jharkhand,” he said, adding that opportunities and proper guidance could enable them to establish their identity nationally and internationally.
He urged the graduating students to connect their achievements with the progress of society and the nation and inspire other girls to pursue their aspirations.
The Governor also called upon the students to leave the university with more than just their degrees, carrying with them self-confidence and a determination to innovate and undertake new initiatives.
“Students should leave the university not only with their degrees but also with self-confidence and a resolve to do something new,” Gangwar said.
He expressed confidence that the graduates would bring pride to their families, Jharkhand and the country through their knowledge, hard work and dedication.
