Ranchi, September 6: Jharkhand minister and Giridih MLA Sudivya Kumar Sonu died suddenly on Sunday, sending shockwaves through political circles and among supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
According to preliminary information, Kumar reportedly suffered a heart attack. His mortal remains were taken to Mercy Hospital in Giridih, the information provided in the report said.Kumar was serving his second consecutive term as the MLA from Giridih after winning the Assembly elections on a JMM ticket.
He was also a member of the Hemant Soren-led state cabinet.At the time of his death, Kumar was handling the portfolios of Higher Education, Urban Development, Sports and Tourism.The sudden demise of the minister triggered an outpouring of grief among JMM workers, supporters and members of the political fraternity.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed deep sorrow over Kumar’s death and described the demise as a major personal loss as well as an irreparable loss to Jharkhand.
In his condolence message, Soren said he found it extremely difficult to accept the news of the untimely death of his cabinet colleague.
He recalled Kumar with emotion and said his absence had created a void that could not easily be expressed in words.The Chief Minister said Kumar’s contribution would be remembered and his absence would continue to be felt.
He also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for strength for them during the difficult period.
Soren further prayed for peace for the departed soul and paid tribute to the late minister.Kumar’s sudden death has left the JMM and the Giridih constituency mourning the loss of a sitting legislator and state minister.
