Giridih, Aug 25: Several cracks developed in a colliery hospital building in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Tuesday after land subsidence was reported in the surrounding area, officials said.The incident occurred in Baniyadih village under the Mufassil police station area, which falls within the operational jurisdiction of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL).No injuries were reported in the incident.
CCL officials reached the site after receiving information about the ground movement and took precautionary measures to prevent people and animals from entering the affected area.CCL Area General Manager K.S. Gaiwal said the site would be closely monitored over the coming days to determine whether the ground movement was continuing or had stabilised.
Officials said the extent of the damage and the condition of the affected area would be assessed before deciding on further measures.A CCL official said a few hospital staff members were present inside the building when the cracks appeared. However, there were no patients at the facility at the time.
The official said the hospital had not been admitting patients because the area had experienced land subsidence earlier as well.The latest incident has raised concerns over the stability of the ground in the mining-affected area.
Authorities are expected to assess the situation further before determining whether additional safety or structural measures are required.Land subsidence can occur when the ground surface sinks because of changes or instability in underground structures.
Such incidents can pose risks to buildings, roads and other infrastructure in mining areas.Officials said continued monitoring would help determine the extent of the subsidence and guide the next course of action.
