Jharkhand, Aug 19: A delegation of BJP leaders from Jharkhand met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed issues related to the development of the state and the prevailing political situation.

The meeting assumes significance as Jharkhand continues to witness protests by students over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

The Jharkhand government on Tuesday released a list of 44 recruitment examinations conducted by the two commissions that had been cancelled following irregularities, amid continuing protests by students and aspirants.

The BJP delegation’s meeting with Shah also comes against the backdrop of the ongoing political debate in the state over recruitment examinations, governance and development.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also met Shah in the national capital on Wednesday.

Shah to visit Siliguri on August 21-22

Shah is scheduled to undertake a two-day visit to Siliguri in West Bengal on August 21-22, during which he will chair a high-level meeting on border security and management.

According to officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Home Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several projects aimed at strengthening border security infrastructure in the region.

Shah will also interact with personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during the visit and discuss issues related to border management, operational challenges and security preparedness.

The SSB is responsible for guarding 1,751 km of the India-Nepal border and 699 km of the India-Bhutan border.

The visit is expected to focus on strengthening coordination among security forces and agencies involved in border management and enhancing security preparedness along the international borders.

Shah is scheduled to arrive in Siliguri on August 21 and participate in a series of programmes focused on border security and management before concluding his two-day visit on August 22.
