Ranchi, Aug 19: The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday directed the state government not to proceed further with the appointment of law officers until it considers a petition challenging the Jharkhand Law Officers Appointment Rules, 2026.The court, during the hearing of the petition, asked the state government to file its response to the challenge.
Advocate General Rohit Roy informed the court that the government would comply with the direction to keep the appointment process on hold.The petition has been filed by advocate Lal Gyan Ranjan Nath Shahdev, who has challenged the Jharkhand Law Officers Appointment Rules, 2026.
The rules govern the procedure for appointing law officers to represent the state government in legal proceedings and provide legal assistance to the administration.
The High Court’s direction means that further steps under the appointment process will remain suspended while the legal challenge is being considered. The court has not, at this stage, struck down or cancelled the 2026 rules.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 8, when the court is expected to consider the state’s response and continue examining the issues raised in the petition.The case could have implications for the implementation of the new rules and the appointment of law officers by the state government.
