Patna, Aug 15: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Saturday announced the deployment of 5,000 women police personnel, or “Police Didis”, outside schools and colleges across the state to strengthen the safety of female students.
The initiative, announced during the state’s 80th Independence Day celebrations at Gandhi Maidan here, will be rolled out from Raksha Bandhan, with the women police personnel patrolling educational institutions on scooters.
The patrol teams will focus on preventing harassment and misbehaviour by miscreants and ensuring the safety of students during their commute to and from schools and colleges.
“5,000 ‘Police Didis’ will patrol schools and colleges on scooters,” Chaudhary said.
The Chief Minister said the initiative was part of the government’s broader efforts to improve security for girl students and create a safer environment around educational institutions.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to address public grievances, Chaudhary said “Sahyog Shivirs” had been organised across the state to provide people with a platform to raise their concerns.
“These camps have received more than 6 lakh complaints and applications, with approximately 95 per cent of the cases resolved on the spot,” he said.
On investment and employment, Chaudhary announced an ambitious target of attracting ₹5 lakh crore in investment by November this year.
“The government has set a target of attracting ₹5 lakh crore in investment by November this year,” he said, urging entrepreneurs from Bihar who are operating outside the state to return and establish industries in their home state.
“A better environment for industry is now being created in Bihar,” Chaudhary said.
He also appealed to entrepreneurs outside Bihar to take advantage of the changing industrial environment and invest in the state.
“Entrepreneurs operating outside Bihar should return and set up industries in the state,” he said.
In another major announcement, the Chief Minister said five more closed sugar mills would be reopened within the next six months.
“Five more sugar mills will be operational in the state within the next six months,” Chaudhary said.
The reopening of the mills is expected to generate employment and provide economic benefits to farmers and labourers associated with the sugar industry.
Chaudhary’s Independence Day address focused on a range of issues, including women’s safety, public grievance redressal, investment, employment, startups and the revival of closed industries.
The announcements come as the Bihar government seeks to combine enhanced public safety measures with efforts to attract investment, create jobs and revive industrial activity in the state.
