Ranchi, Aug 14: The Election Commission has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Jharkhand by 11 days to September 15, 2026, while the final publication of the revised voter list has been deferred to October 19.
According to the revised schedule, the notice phase and processing of claims and objections will now be completed by October 14, followed by publication of the final electoral roll five days later.
The draft electoral roll under the SIR exercise was published on August 5. Under the earlier schedule, claims and objections could be filed until September 4, processing was to be completed by October 3 and the final voter list was scheduled for publication on October 7.
Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar said the extension was sought following suggestions from district election officers and keeping in mind the convenience of voters.
The request took into account the monsoon season, the Shravani fairs in Deoghar and Dumka and the difficulties faced by voters engaged in agricultural activities, he said.
The Election Commission has also appointed 311 additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) across Jharkhand to facilitate faster disposal of claims, objections, notices and applications related to the electoral roll.
Ravi Kumar said the additional manpower would help ensure timely and effective disposal of applications and contribute to making the electoral roll more accurate.
The CEO appealed to eligible Indian citizens whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll to make use of the extended period and submit applications in the prescribed format.
He particularly urged young eligible voters to use Form-6 through ECINET to register their names and encouraged citizens to motivate eligible friends and relatives to enrol themselves.
In case of errors in a voter’s name, address, age or other details in the electoral roll, corrections can be sought through Form-8, officials said.
“The extension was sought keeping in mind the convenience of voters,” Ravi Kumar said, urging eligible citizens whose names are absent from the draft roll to “take advantage of the extended period” and submit their applications.
The revised schedule provides additional time for voters to participate in the electoral-roll revision process, while the deployment of additional officers is expected to strengthen the verification and disposal mechanism across the state.
The Election Commission has urged eligible citizens to use the extended window to check their electoral details and ensure that their names and particulars are correctly reflected in the final voter list.
