Farrukhabad, Aug 14: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday staged a protest at Tripolia Chowk in Farrukhabad over the alleged lathicharge on protesting students in Jharkhand, burning an effigy and demanding an impartial inquiry and strict action against officials found responsible.
A large number of students and ABVP activists participated in the protest and strongly condemned the alleged use of force against students who were raising issues concerning their future and rights.
Addressing the gathering, ABVP district convenor Yashwardhan Chauhan said peaceful expression of grievances was a constitutional right in a democratic country.
“In a democracy, expressing one’s views peacefully is every citizen’s constitutional right,” Chauhan said.
He described the alleged lathicharge on students in Jharkhand as “extremely unfortunate” and contrary to democratic values.
Chauhan said authorities should listen seriously to the problems and demands of students instead of attempting to suppress their voices.
“Student power cannot be intimidated or suppressed,” he said, stressing that dialogue, sensitivity and justice should be used to resolve grievances rather than force.
The ABVP demanded an impartial investigation into the Jharkhand incident and strict action against officials found guilty of using force against the students.
Chauhan also said the organisation would stand firmly with students facing injustice anywhere in the country.
The protest in Farrukhabad comes amid the ongoing student agitation in Jharkhand and indicates that the alleged police action has begun drawing attention and support from student organisations outside the state.
ABVP activists maintained that student grievances should be addressed through dialogue and a sensitive administrative approach, rather than coercive measures.
