Patna, Aug 13: Two girls from Patna who reportedly left their homes together were traced to Khagaria and brought back to the state capital, police said.The girls, who are neighbours in the Adalatganj area, had reportedly left their homes on August 7. Their families subsequently approached the Kotwali police station and lodged a missing-person complaint.
Police traced the girls to Khagaria with the help of mobile phone location information and alerted the local police.A Khagaria Police team located the two near a hotel close to the railway station and subsequently handed them over to the Patna Police after completing the required procedures.
The two girls, who have reportedly known each other for around three years, are students of Class 10 and Class 12. According to police, one of them is an adult while the other is a minor.There were reports that the two had married at a temple in Khagaria.
However, Khagaria Town Police Station SHO Rakesh Kumar Gupta said the local police had no information confirming such a marriage.He said the Khagaria police team had acted on information provided by Patna Police and had only located the girls before handing them over to their counterparts in Patna.
Following their return, both girls were produced before a court, Patna police said.Kotwali police station SHO Ajay Kumar said the court directed that the minor girl be sent to a remand home, while the adult girl was allowed to decide where she wanted to live.
Police sources said the girls expressed a desire to remain together when they were brought back to Patna.The case has drawn attention because of the age difference between the two girls and the unconfirmed claim regarding their alleged temple marriage. Police and the court are dealing with the matter in accordance with the applicable legal procedures, particularly in relation to the minor girl.
