New Delhi, Aug. 7 : Heavy rain lashed Delhi and the adjoining NCR throughout Friday, causing widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruption to commuters, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert till 8 p.m.
Several major roads, including the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, ITO, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Wazirabad Road, Patel Road and Rohtak Road, witnessed slow-moving traffic.
Waterlogging was reported in Chhatarpur Farm and near Mehram Nagar close to Terminal 1, while long queues of vehicles were seen on National Highway 48 near Shankar Vihar.
Traffic movement was also affected on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Gurugram-Dhaula Kuan stretch.
Several commuters reported difficulty booking cabs, leaving many stranded after office hours.
In Shakarpur and Mandawali, e-rickshaw drivers said submerged potholes and overflowing drains had led to accidents and disrupted their livelihoods.
The IMD attributed the heavy rainfall to multiple weather systems active over northern India and warned of continued intense showers, waterlogging and localised flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
