Patna, Aug. 6: Teacher aspirants staged a protest outside the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) office in Patna on Thursday, demanding that the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) be conducted before the fourth phase of teacher recruitment (TRE-4).
Hundreds of candidates gathered near the BSEB premises, raising slogans and urging the state government to hold the eligibility examination before proceeding with the upcoming recruitment process. The protesters argued that conducting STET first would enable more eligible candidates to participate in the recruitment drive.
The demonstrators claimed that the government had earlier indicated that the STET examination would be held twice a year. According to the aspirants, only one examination was conducted in 2025, while no STET examination has been held so far in 2026, leaving many candidates unable to qualify for the next recruitment cycle.
The protest also focused on the number of vacancies proposed under TRE-4. Aspirants said they expected a larger recruitment drive and urged the government to increase the number of teaching posts. They maintained that expanding vacancies would provide greater employment opportunities for qualified candidates.
The Bihar government has already forwarded the recruitment proposal for the fourth phase of teacher appointments to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
Earlier, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had announced that recruitment would be conducted for 32,388 teaching posts under the upcoming phase.Student representatives warned that the agitation could be expanded to other parts of the state if their demands regarding the STET examination and recruitment vacancies are not addressed.
The state government has not yet issued an official response to the protesters’ latest demands. The recruitment process and related examinations are expected to remain closely watched by thousands of teaching aspirants across Bihar.
