Bokaro, July 30: Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha on Thursday directed officials to conduct extensive inspections across the district following complaints that some fertiliser dealers were allegedly selling urea above government-approved prices and holding back stocks.
The inspection drive will cover fertiliser retail outlets, distribution points and storage facilities in different parts of the district.
Jha instructed the Sub-Divisional Officers of Chas and Tenughat, along with Block Development Officers, to carry out intensive checks within their respective jurisdictions and identify any irregularities in the sale and storage of fertilisers.
According to district officials, complaints were received from farmers that certain dealers were charging prices higher than the officially notified rates.
There were also allegations that fertiliser stocks were being withheld to create an artificial shortage and secure higher profits.The Deputy Commissioner warned that dealers found involved in overpricing, unauthorised stockpiling or black marketing would face action under the Fertiliser (Control) Order and other applicable legal provisions.
Officials conducting the inspections have been asked to verify stock availability, sale records, storage arrangements and compliance with prescribed pricing norms.
Jha directed field-level officers to submit detailed reports on the inspections, including any violations detected and the action taken.
The District Agriculture Officer has also been asked to maintain regular oversight of fertiliser availability and prepare a consolidated report on the inspection findings and enforcement measures.The move comes amid similar concerns in other parts of Jharkhand.
Hazaribag Deputy Commissioner Hemant Sati had inspected fertiliser outlets on Wednesday following complaints related to the sale and availability of fertilisers.
The district administration said the exercise was aimed at ensuring adequate fertiliser supply and protecting farmers from unfair pricing and illegal trade practices.
