Patna, July 29: A resident of Bihar’s Kishanganj district has claimed that he was wrongly named in a police case related to protests over the alleged NEET paper leak despite being in Russia for the past four months, even as the Bihar government announced the withdrawal of cases registered against students who participated in the demonstrations.
In a purported video that has gone viral on social media, Mohammad Sadaqat, a resident of Ward No. 12 in Kishanganj, alleged that the Bahadurganj administration named him in a case linked to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest held at LRP Chowk on July 24.
“On the 24th (of July), there was a protest against the NEET leak, at LRP Chowk, and the Bahadurganj administration has named me in that. I have been in Russia for the past four months,” Sadaqat said in the video.
Appealing to the authorities, he said, “Since I am in Russia, I request the administration to remove my name from there. I will remain indebted to the administration for this.”
The authenticity of the viral video has not been independently verified.
When contacted, Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla neither confirmed nor denied whether Sadaqat had been named in the case.
“All those who have any grievances related to the protests could approach the police for redressal,” Shukla said.
The official X handle of Bihar Police had earlier stated that the matter would be examined. However, the post was later no longer visible on the platform.
Meanwhile, the BJP-led Bihar government has decided to withdraw all cases registered against students who participated in the protests over the alleged NEET paper leak.
The decision came following demands from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), the Congress-led Opposition and student organisations, including AISA, seeking withdrawal of cases filed during the statewide agitation.
According to a notification issued by the State Home Department, all FIRs, complaints and show-cause notices related to incidents that occurred before 6 a.m. on July 26 will be withdrawn. The notification also directs that all persons arrested in connection with these cases be released immediately.
A total of 694 people, including nearly half of them minors, had been detained during the statewide bandh called in protest against the alleged paper leak.
Police have not officially confirmed the claims made by Sadaqat, and the matter remains under examination.
