Ranchi, July 15: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has initiated action against beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) who are suspected of violating the scheme’s guidelines by renting out government-allotted houses instead of occupying them.
As part of the drive, the civic body has issued notices to 232 beneficiaries of the Light House Project in Dhurwa, directing them to submit proof within 24 hours that they are residing in their allotted homes.
According to municipal officials, the action follows multiple complaints alleging that several beneficiaries were not living in the houses allotted to them under the housing scheme.
A preliminary inquiry reportedly found instances where subsidised homes had been rented out, prompting the administration to begin verification.
Officials stated that beneficiaries who fail to provide satisfactory evidence or a valid explanation within the stipulated time could face cancellation of their house allotments.
The civic body has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the scheme’s rules.Under the guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), beneficiaries are required to personally occupy the houses allotted to them.
The sale or rental of these subsidised properties is prohibited, as the scheme is intended to provide permanent housing to economically weaker and eligible families.
The Ranchi Municipal Corporation said it is committed to ensuring that the benefits of the housing programme reach genuine beneficiaries and that any misuse of public welfare schemes will be dealt with in accordance with the rules.
