Jharkhand IG Sudarshan Mandal hospitalised after heart attack

Ranchi, July 14: Jharkhand Prisons Inspector General (IG) Sudarshan Mandal was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack on Monday.

He was rushed to Medica Hospital in Ranchi, where doctors performed an emergency angioplasty and inserted two stents to treat blocked coronary arteries.

Mandal, a 2006-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Jharkhand cadre, reportedly developed severe chest pain and discomfort around noon.

He was immediately taken to the hospital and admitted to the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to hospital sources, cardiologists led by Dr. Deepak Gupta carried out an emergency angioplasty after identifying a blocked artery.

Two stents were implanted successfully to restore normal blood flow.

Doctors said Mandal’s condition is currently stable and that he remains under the close supervision of a team of specialist doctors.

He is being continuously monitored in the ICU.Sudarshan Mandal is currently serving as the Inspector General of Prisons and has previously held several key positions in the Jharkhand Police, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dumka Range and Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The incident has prompted concern among senior government and police officials, who are closely following updates on his health.
