Ramgarh, July 10: The annual Ashadhi Mahapuja was celebrated with traditional Vedic rituals and deep religious fervour at the renowned Siddhapeeth Maa Chhinnamasta Temple in Rajrappa on Friday, with hundreds of devotees participating in the sacred ceremony and offering prayers for timely rainfall, agricultural prosperity and the welfare of society.

The temple reverberated with the chants of Vedic hymns, the blowing of conch shells, ringing of temple bells and the beats of traditional drums as priests performed elaborate rituals inside the sanctum sanctorum. The special worship commenced around noon with temple priests entering the shrine accompanied by traditional musical instruments.

As part of the rituals, Goddess Chhinnamasta was ceremonially bathed with milk, Ganga water, honey, curd, ghee and other sacred substances before being adorned with elaborate floral decorations featuring roses, lotus flowers and other fragrant blossoms.

The highlight of the festival was the offering of Chhappan Bhog—56 varieties of traditional delicacies—along with seasonal fruits to the deity. Temple authorities said the offerings symbolised prayers for timely monsoon rains, abundant crop production, prosperity, social harmony, state development and the welfare of humanity.

The special puja lasted for about an hour and witnessed participation by a large number of devotees. Following the Maha Aarti, the Chhappan Bhog was distributed as prasad, with devotees forming long queues to receive the blessed offerings.

Senior priest Subodh Panda said the spiritual atmosphere created by the sounds of drums, conch shells and temple bells filled the entire temple complex with divine energy.

“Throughout the ritual, the sound of drums, conch shells and temple bells filled the entire temple complex with spiritual energy. A large number of devotees participated in the special worship and received the blessings of Maa Chhinnamasta,” he said.

Senior temple priest Lokesh Panda said Ashadhi Puja holds significance beyond religious observance.

“Ashadhi Puja is not merely a religious ritual but an important festival of the ancient Sanatan tradition associated with nature, agriculture and public welfare. Through this puja, prayers are offered to Goddess Chhinnamasta for timely rainfall, prosperity, the state’s progress and the welfare of the world,” he said.

Members of the Temple Trust Committee, including Aseem Panda, Lokesh Panda and Guddu Panda, said the annual ritual is organised to seek the blessings of Maa Chhinnamasta for better crop yield, the progress of the country, state and society, and for happiness and peace.

Temple authorities said Ashadhi Mahapuja remains one of the most significant annual religious observances at the Rajrappa shrine, attracting devotees from across Jharkhand and neighbouring states who gather to offer prayers for prosperity, abundant harvests and universal well-being.
