Ranchi, July 10: Burglars allegedly decamped with cash and jewellery worth more than ₹1.5 crore after breaking into the residence of a prominent builder in Ranchi’s Ashok Nagar area in the early hours of Thursday, police said.
The incident took place at the residence of Akhilesh Pandey, owner of Triveni Construction. According to preliminary investigations, the burglars entered the house through the rear by climbing a drainage pipe.
Wearing masks and carrying bags, they allegedly gained access to the house while the family members were asleep. The theft came to light on Thursday morning when the family found the lock of an almirah broken and cash and valuable jewellery missing.
The burglars are believed to have fled before anyone in the house noticed the break-in.Police suspect the crime was carefully planned, as the intruders appeared to know where the valuables were kept.
Investigators are examining whether the accused had prior information about the house or received assistance from someone familiar with the property.Senior police officials, including the City SP and Hatia DSP, visited the spot.
A forensic team collected fingerprints and other evidence from the house, including the drainage pipe and the damaged almirah.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being examined to identify the suspects.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility that information about the valuables may have been leaked after an engagement ceremony held at the house three days before the burglary.
Several relatives and guests had attended the function, and a substantial quantity of jewellery had reportedly remained in the house after the event.
Police have formed multiple teams to investigate the case and are verifying the involvement of known burglary gangs operating in and around Ranchi. Officials said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
